Choose call and display preferences
Use the Preferences screen to manually configure Elder Dialler.
Preference Screen Options
Guided Setup covers the most commonly used choices. Preferences contains the complete set of calling, display, layout and Advanced options.
Selectors
- Dial Pad
- Select Dial Pad to show buttons that enable manual entry of phone numbers. This is disabled by default to prioritise speed dials rather than expecting people to remember and type long phone numbers.
- Touch Tone
- Makes the on-screen touch-tone keypad available during calls, for example when using an automated telephone menu.
- SOS Button
- Shows or hides the SOS button on the main screen. Turning it on does not configure the SOS contacts; those need to be added using the long-press menu in the Contacts list screen.
- Loudspeaker
- When a call is established, enabling this option automatically turns on the phone loudspeaker. This can be useful for people who are less inclined to wear hearing aids.
- Pin Screen
- Uses Android screen pinning to help keep Elder Dialler on screen for a simpler phone experience. It is a free option and is not a security lock.
- Ask before dialling
- Shows a confirmation before Elder Dialler starts a call, helping prevent accidental calls.
Theme
Choose Normal, Dark or Warm. Choose the theme that is easiest for the phone user to see.
Font
Choose Normal, Large or Huge. Adjust font size to user preference so that names and numbers can be seen clearly.
Speed Dials
Choose the Normal 6-button layout, 2 × 4 for 8 positions, or 2 × 5 for 10 positions. Once you have changed the number of speed dial buttons it is easy to add or remove contacts; just use a long-press on the speed dial button. Note that the long-press functionality is disabled in pinned mode.
Advanced
- Contact Images
- Rather than showing just the name of the person being called, images are displayed. These images are obtained from the phone Contacts application and can be created by taking photos of the person. Press and hold a contact name in the contact list before selecting Edit Contact to change the image.
- Safe Call Mode
- Helps reduce scammer and spammer calls by enabling advanced incoming-call filtering that permits incoming calls from Contacts and rejects unmatched, invalid or private numbers.
- Language
- Changes the language used within the app. This can follow the language active in the system or specifically use English, Chinese, Japanese, Hindi, Italian, Greek or Croatian.
- AutoSOS
- When the normal SOS button is used, the user needs to manually press to call each contact in the SOS contact list. AutoSOS removes the need to manually call each later contact by setting up a countdown between SOS contacts using timeout values of 10, 15, 20 or 30 seconds.
Note: A Support button may also appear in diagnostic builds so a tester can prepare a diagnostic report.
