Configure Safe Call Mode
Understand how Advanced contact-based incoming-call protection works.
Important limitations
- Safe Call Mode is an Advanced contacts-only incoming-call filtering option. Without Advanced access it is treated as off.
- It is not complete scam protection and a displayed contact name does not prove a caller's identity.
- Be advised that Safe Call Mode may reject calls from unsaved health service, emergency worker, neighbour or other legitimate caller not in the Contacts list, although these can easily be added as new contacts from the call history when needed.
Decide whether contacts-only filtering is appropriate
- Confirm that Contacts permission is available. If contact data cannot be read, current logic does not reject a call solely for that reason.
- Choose Safe Call Mode during Guided Setup after Advanced is available, or in the Advanced area of Preferences. ON allows incoming numbers that match visible contacts; OFF permits normal incoming-call handling.
- Ask a consenting saved contact to call. The incoming call is allowed.
- Use a known number that is not saved to understand the behaviour. The result appears in Elder Dialler's call history.
- Explain the choice to the phone user or carer. After changing contacts or permissions, review Safe Call Mode again.
Blocking is separate: Explicitly blocking one number is different from enabling Safe Call Mode for unmatched incoming numbers. See Call protection.
Instructions describe the current Advanced entitlement requirement, contact-matching behaviour and Contacts-permission dependency.
